The must-have garment for summer or to stay at home
Very popular with the Japanese for its lightness, the yukata is on everyone's back during the matsuri season. Generally made of cotton or synthetic, it is indeed much more adapted to summer temperatures than its cousin the kimono. And both men and women can wear it easily to enjoy the festivals without suffering from the heat.
Composed ''only'' of a drape and an obi (traditional belt used to tie the yukata), it is also much less complex to put on than its winter version which requires several layers of fabric to be worn properly. An undeniable asset, which first made it famous in the locker rooms of onsen before bringing it to the festivals.
